A food desert is an urban neighborhood or rural town without access to fresh, healthy, and affordable food. It’s a situation that affects nearly 24 million Americans in communities across the country and in our own backyard. We no longer have a grocery store in College Hill. But fortunately we do have a farmers’ market with fresh, local produce, meat, cheese, bread and much more. Check it out this Thursday afternoon from 3:00 – 6:30 in the parking lot of the College Hill Presbyterian Church at the corner of Hamilton and Llanfair.
In addition to supporting the farm market, there is something else you can do about food deserts. For posting a photo of yourself holding a fruit or vegetable, Naked Juice will donate 10 pounds of produce to underserved communities on your behalf. Just follow these steps:
- Take a photo holding a vegetable or fruit.
- Tag your friends to do the same.
- Post on social media using the hashtag #DrinkGoodDoGood
- 1 photo = 10 lbs. of produce donated.
That’s it! More at drinkgooddogood.com.
