Dave Hawkins Performs
This week Dave Hawkins will perform from 5:00 to 6:30. Dave is a Nashville songwriter who makes his home in College Hill when not on the road. He plays the first Wednesday of each month at Marty’s Hops and Vines and also appears a few times a year at College Hill Coffee Co. He just released his 8th album last month.
Story Time Next Week
Next week (June 15th), Amanda, the children’s librarian from the College Hill Branch of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, will join us for a special children’s story time. Kids can gather under the shade of the tree near the market table from 3:30-4:30 to share songs, stories, bubbles, and more. This activity will be most appropriate for infants through 2nd graders. Mark your calendars!
Product Spotlight: Cucumbers
Cucumbers are related to squashes, pumpkins, and melons. They have a high water content so are naturally hydrating to our bodies during the heat of the summer. They are also a source of vitamin K and molybdenum as well as various phytonutrients like lignans. The refrigerator pickle recipe below is quick, easy, and sweet. (If you spill any of the pickling mixture on the countertop use rubbing alcohol to remove the turmeric stains.) The tzatziki, or cucumber yogurt sauce, is excellent with pita or pita chips, on vegetables, on a sandwich, etc. The Kimchi noodle salad includes a few more ingredients (including some Korean ones that may warrant a trip to CAM or Jungle Jim’s) and takes a bit more time, but also uses other produce you may be seeing at the market, like radishes and green onions. It is fresh and delicious (and spicy!).
